The GRUPPO SPORTIVO SPECIAL TEAM formerly GRUPPO SPORTIVO ANFFAS LIGURIA – Onlus was set up in 1982 as an offshoot of ANFFAS to meet the needs of families of people with mental and relational disabilities. The aim was to give people the opportunity to engage their relatives outside the activities carried out in the centres, beyond normal working hours on weekdays and on Saturdays and Sundays.

Currently a social promotion association, GSAL promotes the development of sport both as a true non-competitive sport and as an integration with the able-bodied. This is achieved through constant training aimed at acquiring and improving personal skills as well as sporting ones. All of this is done without neglecting recreational and entertainment activities.

The sports disciplines practiced are ATHLETICS – RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS – SWIMMING – ALPINE SKIING – NORDIC SKIING.

The association participates in the activities promoted by SPECIAL OLYMPICS ITALIA, a movement founded in the United States by Eunice Kennedy to give equal opportunities to the intellectually disabled. It avails itself of the experience and collaboration of instructors with professional experience in the field of rehabilitation.

At a psychosocial level, the rehabilitation effects consist in socialization, empowerment of autonomy, acceptance of rules and tolerance of frustration.
